I was tempted to head over to Lake Berryessa on my way to Vacaville and do a few water landings, but I figured the sooner I got the plane to ICON the sooner they'd be done with the maintenance. Plus, I was planning to spend some time on the lake the next day.
My plane had been built in Vacaville in September/October 2018 and I'd taken delivery in November 2018. So, I'd had this particular plane less than a year and put over 200 hours on it - most of that in the previous two months. By some people's standards 200 hours in a year isn't a big deal, but for someone like me who typically flies maybe 2-3 hours a week, it felt substantial. Pretty much every hour the plane had on it I'd been the pilot in the left seat. I suspect that seat has been custom contoured to fit my butt at this point. Maybe that's why it's so comfortable.
I spent a few hours talking with some ICON folks before checking into my hotel. I'd been up to this area a bunch of times previously, so I knew some of the hotel staff and already had my dinner plans figured out.
Tahoe Joe's is a steakhouse chain around Central and Northern California. I started going to the one near the Vacaville hotel years ago, mostly because it was close. It's not an amazing restaurant, but not bad either. The food is decent, good portions and generous drinks. It's a fun place and I typically enjoy sitting at the bar and talking to whoever's there. You definitely can get some real characters.
The other nice advantage is it's within walking distance of the hotel, and I hadn't rented a car. I think I racked up a pretty good bar bill that night, so the walk back was refreshing - even though the temps were still in the 90s.
