First Flight Airport - Part 2
I spent about an hour walking around the monument and the visitor center and just taking it all in. Then it was time to move on. I made a quick fuel stop at a nearby airport, Currituck (KONX), and had a chat with the airport manager there, who came out to check out the A5.
Final stop for the day was Hampton Roads Executive (KPVG). When I'd originally planned my route, I was going to stop at Elizabeth City (KECG) because it was the closest airport to First Flight. But, I got a note through my website from a gent named Bill, who said I should go to Hampton Roads instead. I didn't have any particular preference, so I decided to change to KPVG. What the heck.
When I landed today, the FBO told me over the radio that there was someone waiting to meet up with me. It was Bill.
We spent some time talking about the A5 and flying in general. Bill flies a Cessna 182 he bought on auction from the police department. The same plane he'd flown for years while working for that same police department [or maybe Sheriff? Sorry, Bill I may have been a little dehydrated 😀]
He was nice enough to drive me over to my hotel and then give some suggestions for how best to navigate the Norfolk airspace for my flight tomorrow up to New Jersey.
This was exactly the kind of thing I wanted to have happen with this trip - connecting up with cool and interesting people. Thanks, Bill!
Tomorrow it's up to New Jersey to meet up with family for a few days. It'll be a good chance to regroup, recharge and get ready for the next part of this adventure.
😀👍🏼
