Final maintenance on the A5 was done today. Thanks to the folks at Executive Air for all the great service and support! Sadly, the weather wasn't cooperating nearly as well, so I spent another day in Muskegon.
As luck would have it, a high school friend and his family were in town so I got to take advantage of their hospitality - and awesome lake house - for the day. It was great catching up after all these years. We even managed to sneak in the shortest A5 demo flight ever between storms.
Ironically, it cleared up later in the evening and we got a great sunset. 😒
Tomorrow I'm heading out to Mackinac Island as we resume our regularly scheduled broadcast.
😀👍🏼
Even though I was still in Muskegon, it was nice to hang out with other people for a full day. They have a great farmer's market in the downtown area and my friend's lake house was up on a cliff right on the Lake Michigan shore The view was great but we could also see how much erosion was happening. Whole docks were being slowly (or not so slowly) broken down and carried out into the water. So, as we were standing on the shore big, square timbers would float in on the waves. You had to pay attention because some of them were big enough to do some real damage if they hit you.
I was watching the weather during the day and it looked like there was going to be a break in the storms in the late afternoon. By the time we got to the airport and did the pre-flight things were starting to look gloomy again on the horizon. I decided to at least get up and see how close the storms were.
The weather at the time was clear at the airport, so I knew I wasn't purposely taking off into bad weather.
Once we got in the air, though, it was clear we weren't going anywhere. There was a storm front moving in quickly
from the north. I basically flew the pattern and landed, taxied back to the hangar and as I was pushing the plane back in it started to rain. So, I kept the streak alive, barely, but I wish I'd been able to give my friend a proper demo flight.
The only bonus pic I have is of a Veteran's memorial that was just off one of the highways. I saw the shape in the trees as I was driving up and briefly thought it was a working helicopter hovering there, which would've been very surprising. Nice memorial, though.
