Got some much needed time on the water. I went south from Harbor Springs to #lakecharlevoix . Little Traverse Bay looked promising at first but there was a swell coming in off Lake Michigan, so I just did a low pass.
Conditions at Lake Charlevoix were much better. Got a few landings in and then flew further south to #torchlake. I’d passed over this lake on my way up from Muskegon.
The water near the shore is very turquoise. I was told it’s a deep lake that’s fed by cold springs, which give it the bright color. I dropped in for one landing and immediately had two boats come over to see if I was ok. Always glad that people are concerned and willing to help if it was an emergency.
Met a really nice couple on a pontoon boat who pulled up alongside and wanted to take a picture of the A5 for their son who’s in the Air Force. We talked for a bit then I started up and did a few more landings and splash-n-gos around the lake. I think they got some good pictures.
The wind was starting to pick up, so I headed back north. I did one last landing on Lake Charlevoix and had a couple waves that totally soaked me while I was turning around. Between the wind, waves and wet clothes I decided to call it a day and flew back to Harbor Springs. It was another great day on the water, though.
Tomorrow I’m off to #osh19. I’ll be flying into Green Bay (KGRB) and then going to the seaplane base on Wednesday morning, if all goes as planned.
