Flew a Cessna 152 with an instructor today, partly to keep my streak alive but it's also good to fly other aircraft every now and then to keep from getting too complacent. It definitely took a moment to get used to the old cluster f**k of instruments, but it came back pretty quickly and I hit a few decent landings.
I stopped in to see how the A5 maintenance was going. So far everything looks good, although it's kind of unnerving to see everything opened up like that.
I also explored Muskegon a little bit. They're gearing up for #rebelroad, a huge motorcycle event that takes over the downtown area. It starts tonight and runs through the weekend. I may check out "Ironsnake" tomorrow night. Looks like an 80s cover band!
I have another short lesson scheduled tomorrow. Friday is still a question mark, but the A5 *may* be back up and running by the evening, so I might be able to do a quick shake-down flight.
😀👍🏼
I knew the A5 would be down for at least 2-3 days, so I made good use of my rental car. I drove down to one of the beaches and hung out in a small main street area nearby to do some sightseeing.
The flight lesson I booked was at West Michigan Regional Airport in Holland, a 45 minute drive south. They had a very fancy main building that looked like the paint was still wet - it was so new.
The flight ended up being just a few laps around the pattern instead of a full instrument lesson, but it was still good to get behind the controls of something different for a change. Makes me appreciate the A5 even more.
After the lesson I drove into downtown Holland looking for a place to have dinner. I found
Waverly Stone Gastropub.
I typically sit at the bar when I'm by myself. I don't like to tie up a whole table for just one person, but also it's easier to strike up conversations at the bar. Waverly Stone didn't disappoint. The food, drinks, service and conversation were all fantastic. Another successful seat-of-the-pants adventure!
